Conditions We Treat

Low Back Pain

90% of us will experience low back pain at some stage in our life. Thorough assessment leads to a better diagnosis and a comprehensive plan to enable a full recovery AND help prevent reoccurrence.

Arthritis

Will affect us all in different degrees. Stretching and strengthening exercises, weight management, balance exercises, hydrotherapy and complementing this with appropriate medical management (ie: anti-inflammatories) can turn a painful arthritis into a pain free situation again.

Ligament Sprains

The most common sprain is of the ankle and with early immediate treatment with Physiotherapy can reduce time off work or sport. Icing, taping, even crutches are used initially before balance, strength and stretching exercises are introduced. Taping and bracing is often used to prevent recurrent injuries.

Sciatica

Sciatica really describes pain down the line of the sciatic nerve in the leg. It is often caused by a low back disc or joint strain. Treatment is to the back and the sciatic nerve and sometimes to the surrounding gluteal or hamstring muscles.

Headaches

Often associated with poor neck posture, muscle tension or jaw clenching. Treatment is to the neck and/or jaw regions.

Sports Injuries

From weekend golfer or gardener to elite athlete, our treatment helps you return to what you want to do as soon as possible.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy or Aquatic Physiotherapy, refers to a specific form of physiotherapy treatment in a heated pool supervised by an experienced physiotherapist. The warmth and buoyancy of the water can help to reduce muscle spasm, increase circulation and decrease pain. It is beneficial for people of all ages who suffer from injuries or musculoskeletal conditions that are easily aggravated by weight-bearing or land based exercises.

Joint Surgery

Working with your treating surgeon, we will rehabilitate you after hip replacement, knee cartilage/reconstruction/replacement, ankle ligament repair, shoulder rotator cuff surgery and many other surgical procedures.

Whiplash

The high speed overstretching of the neck and its muscles and joints can cause severe head, neck and arm pain.

Tendonitis

Is inflammation and pain from tendons, including the achilles, shoulder and ‘tennis elbow’ tendons. Tendons have poor blood supply and so are slow to heal. Treatment focuses on exercising at the ‘right’ level to help strengthen the tendon as it heals.

Shoulder pain

Is one of the most annoying complaints. We treat frozen shoulders, rotator cuff strains, AC joint sprains and muscular pain.

Jaw problems

Cameron has extensive experience working with clients with jaw pain and clicking, temple headaches, jaw locking and treating people who grind or clench. He works with local Dentists and maxillofacial Surgeons/Specialists.

Dizziness and Vertigo

Jo has specialised skills in the treatment of dizziness, vertigo and balance disorders. Vestibular Rehabilitation is the field which treats disorders of the Vestibular system (inner ear and balance systems), allowing people to overcome these debilitating symptoms.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular rehabilitation is a niche area of Physiotherapy that uses specialised exercises to help improve symptoms such as dizziness, vertigo, unsteadiness due to inner ear problems. Common conditions include Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), Neuritis/Labyrinthitis, Meniere’s disease, Vestibular migraine, cervicogenic (neck-related) dizziness, age-related balance changes.

We also treat repetitive strain injuries and women’s health conditions – such as spinal pain associated with pregnancy and childbirth, and pelvic floor problems.

Therapeutic Dry Needling (Acupuncture) Also Available

Josephine, Cameron and Simon also practice dry needling which is similar to acupuncture but is used only for the treatment of pain and musculoskeletal dysfunction. It is a much simpler practice consisting of locating ‘myofascial trigger points’. More than 70% of the acu-points correspond with commonly occurring trigger points. Please ask your Physiotherapist more about dry needling or ask at reception for an information sheet.
